Description

Gad Pierce was an early pioneer, tavern keeper, public official and military leader. He was born June 12, 1768, in Royalstown, Mass., a direct descendant of John Pers, who arrived in America from England with four children in 1637. A grant from the Plymouth Land Council is dated June 1, 1621, for 100 acres. In the 1790s, Gad Pierce lost two children to cholera. In 1807, at the age of 40, he moved to what is now the city of Niagara Falls, N.Y. In 1811, he opened a very popular tavern at the intersection of Main Street and Portage Road.
